Head Coach Brandon Gilliam has been with the Cougars since 2002. He took over as the Head Coach in the fall of 2015 after longtime Head Coach Chris Watkins stepped down. Watkins ran the BYU Men's Soccer Program for 21 years and had a massive impact on the program winning 7 National Championships and taking them into the PDL as the first collegiate program to play semi-pro.
Coach Gilliam worked under Chris Watkins as an Assistant Coach and Goalkeeper Coach for 8 years after he finished his playing carrier with the blue and white from 2002-2008. Gilliam was a starter 4 years out of his 5-year career and finished as the number one keeper in the nation with goals against his Senior year.
The Texas native had two successful seasons in the PDL before shifting back to Collegiate Soccer to win his first National Championship in 2017.
Coach Brandon Gilliam is not only the Head Coach for the Cougars, but is also a business and family man. He runs two companies; Better Goalkeeping and the Soccer Development Group. Better Goalkeeping is one of the most elite Goalkeeper Programs in the nation producing incredible top-level goalkeepers who go on to play for colleges all over the US. He also manufactures and produces his own line of goalkeeper gloves of high quality at a low price. As the CEO and Director of SDG, he writes curriculum and oversees the training of hundreds of young players. He has a deep passion for helping develop the next generation of players and people.
With all his love for BYU Men's Soccer and his companies, his family is his pride and joy! He married BYU Soccer Alumni Nicole Gilliam in 2008 and has 3 incredible kids; Tensley, Micah and Evelyn. If he is not building his business or Coaching BYU, Brandon can always be found somewhere near the mountains spending time with Family!
