BYU Men's Soccer team has been selected as a participant for the 102nd Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. We are one of 19 PDL teams to be selected for the tournament. All 19 PDL teams will enter the competition in the first round, set to be played on May 13. The winners will advance for a chance to face USL PRO opposition in the second round, to be played the follow week on May 20. The 2015 tournament will feature 91 teams, an increase from the 80 that competed last year, marking the largest field in the modern era (1995-present) and the fourth consecutive year where a record has been set.

BYU Men’s Soccer names Steve Magleby assistant coach Provo, UT- Brigham Young University Men’s Soccer Coach Christopher Watkins announced Monday (Jan. 5) that former Cougar player and Director of Coaching for Utah Celtic F.C. and Utah Rangers F.C., Steve Magleby has been hired as an assistant coach. “I’ve been involved with the BYU Men’s Soccer Program for over 12 years now - as a player, alumnus and now coach,” said Magleby.
This past week the '99 Utah ODP team won the National title, the first time ever for the state of Utah. Sam Hess and Aaron Nixon both commits, helping their team lead the way. "We felt confident going into the game, we were well prepared, and very focused. Knowing that we had, up to that point, beaten some great teams gave us confidence going into the final" said Sam. They both are extremely excited to join the team in a couple years and we look forward to seeing all that they accomplish!
Placing second in the PDL Mountain Division with a 7-4-3 season the Brigham Young University Men’s Soccer team played its first fall friendly last Friday. The Cougars took on Idaho Sate and came out on top with the final score 7-1.
Provo, UT- The Brigham Young University Men’s Soccer Team will face Ventura County Fusion in the first round of the Premier Development League playoff games. “We have worked really hard for this game,” said head coach Christopher Watkins. “The last time we made the playoffs was in 2007 and some of our players have been waiting a long time for this game. We are coming to the game 100 percent prepared.” The Cougars hold a final season record of 7-4-3 with 24 overall points. Ventura County Fusion finished 8-3-3 with 27 points.

PROVO, Utah- In an exciting game against the Mobsters, BYU earns another three points keeping them on top of the PDL Mountain Division. “We did just enough to win,” said head coach Christopher Watkins. “We have a lot to work on after tonight.” The scoring started quick for the cougars when in the 6th minute Garrett Gee was able to score after receiving a pass from BYU senior defender Jonathan Junca. In the 21st minute Scott Heaton scored the second goal for the Cougars after a chip into the net.
Provo, UT- In a match against the San Jose Earthquakes (U23) team BYU Men’s Soccer pulls a 2-1 win. “Our midfield was excellent,” said head coach Christopher Watkins. “We did a great job of pressing and keeping a great team away from our goal.” Starting the off the match early in the 7th minute Blake Frischknecht scored the first goal for the Cougars after dribbling past a defender and taking a shot. Shortly after in the 27th minute Frischknecht scored the second goal for BYU off a penalty kick.
PROVO, Utah — In the second game of the season, the BYU men’s soccer team beats out FC Tucson, 3-2. The Cougars come out on top in their undefeated season. “We did not have our best game tonight,” said head coach Christopher Watkins. “We did some great things in the offensive third and will be working hard in practice the next week." FC Tucson’s number 7, Tommy Ramos, scored the first goal off a header in the 32nd minute. The Cougars followed with a goal of their own from Matt Rider in the 36th minute. Pedro Vasconcelos assisted the goal. Multiple cautions were awarded throughout the game.
